Fort William Historic Park - September 4, 2005

Fort William recreates the fur trading era and it is 1815.  Everyone is in character and the pace is the same as it was in 1815, so by early September things are slowed down and they are mostly getting ready for winter.  It is one of those places you have to experience yourself, but we have pictures:

These are from the fire tower, the river is the same one as Kakabeka Falls and the ships would come in from Lake Superior to dock here:

They have concerts and restaurants here, so they hide electricity very well.  The restaurants are not in character, they have modern equipment.  But from the outside you have to look towards Mount McKay from the fire tower to see modern civilization (other than planes):

We really enjoyed talking to the various people in character, they were based on real people.  (Summer 2006: We learned the doctor later became the father of Oregon Territory)
