November 11, 2006 in Big Bend National Park

Heading up to Chisos Basin.

Starting to see larger trees and bushes as we gain elevation:

The Chisos Basin Visitors Center.  It was much cooler here and a bit windy this day.

The Windows:

The Windows Trail was closed due to Black Bear activity, mothers with cubs.  So we did not stay long at Chisos Basin.

A wildflower, we just missed catching a bee on this flower:

Back we went to the main road to retrace back to where we ended the day before.  We stopped at the Sam Nail Ranch on the way since it was on the right.  Here is the non-working windmill at the ranch:

The working windmill, it brings a small amount of water to the surface which allows trees to grow:

Another view of the windmill in the trees:

Quicktime Video (2.46MB) of the windmill with the sound the windmill makes.

More scenery:

Another ranch, at this one the house has survived:

More volcanic evidence:

We stopped at Dugout Wells and here are the pictures from that stop.

Just before getting back to Rio Grande Village is the Rio Grande Overlook.  Here is a picture from the overlook:

A view of Rio Grande Village:

Boquillas, Mexico peaks through the hole in the hills:

Red thorns by the overlook:
