August 9, 2006 - The drive from Fairbanks to Fielding Lake, AK

The weather was great for a scenic drive down the Richardson Highway from Fairbanks to mile 200 where we camped.

A butterfly that finally landed so we could take its picture:

The pipeline bridge:

About anything in fur, including a bikini:

We could see some of the Alaska Range:

At one stop a fellow traveler wanted his picture taken and reciprocated for us:

The Black Rapids Glacier viewpoint:

We did not see the bison:

The red arrow shows the Black Rapids Glacier from near the bison sign:

The next two pictures are of Rainbow Ridge, which gets its name from the rock colors:

Soon after Rainbow Ridge we drove the 1-1/2 mile gravel road at milepost 200 to Fielding Lake State Recreation Area where we could camp for free.
