September 4, 2008 - Loop drive via Iron Mountain and Escanaba, Michigan

We decided that September 4th was our best day to take a long day trip.  We drove west to US16, which we took south to US2 and into Iron Mountain.  US2 was the route we took in 2003 and the road was in better shape this year.

It was a little early for lunch and nothing appealed so we headed east to Escanaba.  We found Swedish Pantry and had a nice meal of Swedish food.  We think this is the first Swedish restaurant either of us has been to in our lives.  Bill remembers a Swedish Smorgasbord in California from his youth, but this one is a sit down restaurant.

After lunch we went to the Sand Point Lighthouse:

The surf boat:

The replacement lighthouse in the lake:

Then we headed back to our campsite.
