Now the Apache Trail becomes dirt, 22 miles of it are not paved. After a bit we came to Apache Lake:
This is the Apache Lake Resort:
Eventually the Apache Trail comes into a valley and there was a nice turnout to take pictures of the surroundings:
Then we headed up the hill on a dirt road with a simple guard rail. When we made it to the top there was a scenic viewpoint:
After a while the road was paved again and went through Tortilla Flats and eventually above Canyon Lake:
Here the road gets a bit straighter and heads back to Apache Junction. One day we might take the drive the other way to see the morning light on the trail now that we have seen the afternoon light.
