June 16, 2006 - Dawson in the evening

It was now sunny and dry in Dawson City, but most of the stores were closed so it was quieter.  We had already determined the Tracks to Adventure caravan was in the only campground in the city so we expected to run into people we knew.

The building in back is Diamond Tooth Gertie's Gambling Hall:

Motorcycles doing a "Dust to Dawson" ride, we encountered many of them on Dome Road.

Some of the old buildings and signs:

The Yukon Queen takes day trips up the Yukon to Eagle, Alaska.  On the way back they bring Holland America tour passengers to Dawson.

Main Street:

We went in to see the show at Diamond Tooth Gertie's Gambling Hall.  We used our first Alaska Toursaver coupon to pay the $6C for one of us to enter.  We are glad we bought the coupon book before we headed north so we had the coupons before entering Alaska.  We ran into Juanita of the Nutty Buddy's playing slots, whom we hadn't seen since Prince George.  They charge admission to the casino since they have shows and many don't gamble or drink.  I know we didn't gamble or drink.  The 8:30PM show was lots of fun, but we didn't want to hang around for either the 10:30PM or midnight shows since we had had enough of cigarette smoke.

These pictures are hand held without flash, but they should give you the flavor of the show:

Of course we realized later we should have taken Juanita's picture.

Here is the outside of Diamond Tooth Gerties.  The guy tying his shoe wanted to get in for free and was mad they wouldn't let him.

Realize it is after 9PM and the sun is still bright.
