March 10, 2006 - Last evening bird show on lake

Our last evening there was no wind so we could watch the large numbers of birds come back to roost for the night on the lake.

Here is how the lake looked as the birds were coming in, most of the white spots are egrets:

A closer view of the roosting birds where you can see there are cormorants and close to the bottom left a night heron on a branch between two snowy egrets.

This close-up will help you see the night heron:

Ducks, cormorants and a goose on the near side of the lake.

A new group flies in to find a perch:

One of the night herons decided to move to the other side of the lake and hang out with a cormorant.  Notice the green heron faintly on the upper right:

The cormorant left, but the night heron stayed.
