February 28, 2006 - Fulton Beach wildlife

We stopped the car in Fulton Beach because we saw all these White Pelicans.  We could get really close and many were finding something to eat.  The one in the back in the second picture was swallowing something large:

White Pelicans often herd their prey:

We think the knob on the top beak means "male" and the ones without one are female:

Another one trying to swallow something quite large with followers:

Yes, there were more birds than White Pelicans:

One with a big fish that it was not yet swallowing:

Some of the other birds we saw:

It was fun to see White Pelicans so close up, they are some of the largest birds in North America and nest all the way into the Northwest Territories in Canada.
