They had just come in, parked and walked back to tell the ranger their site number and a fire broke out. (We learned this later from some other people).
Mostly we took videos and the fire trucks were spraying water on the trailer by 10:43AM, 8 minutes after Diane heard the yelling.
Some short videos of the fire, all taken from the back of our campsite:
The initial video Bill took before going back in to get his shoes (1.77MB WMV)
Excerpt 1 of the second video (1.39MB WMV)
Around here is where the owner tried to get the truck out but the trailer fell on the tailgate and trapped the truck.
Video 4, which is shorter (6.55MB WMV)
Excerpt 2 of the fifth video, showing the fireman getting the fire inside (3.77MB WMV)
The three longer videos, unedited:
Speculation is it was a refrigerator fire, but no one knows.
Here are some closer photos when Bill went over to check things while the fireman get ready to leave.
Ugly.
Even later in the day. The truck was drivable and gone but missing a tailgate which is just visible in this photo.
Messages on the Yahoo Thousand Trails group said it was the
refrigerator and the owners were locals. We since learned it was
the converter. People blame refrigerators too fast.
