December 19 to 31, 2011 - Port St. Lucie, FL

We left Fort Lauderdale on December 19th and drove 93 miles north to St. Lucie West Outdoor Resorts in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  This is one of the fancier places we have stayed.  We were in a nicely improved lot.

Diane got the Christmas Tree up.

We chose to spend time here because two years earlier we had visited Brent and Diane here and we had made arrangements to spend more time with them this year.  Unfortunately Brent was diagnosed with cancer and they were still in Washington state for his treatment.

Two years earlier Brent and Diane had shown us the Christmas light show in downtown Fort Pierce so we went again on the 20th.

A bird of paradise flower around the resort.

A nice hibiscus bloom.

Creamer potatoes taste like they are already buttered.  These were at Nelson Family Farms in Fort Pierce.

Another nice sunset over the lake close to our campsite.

Joel called and he and lady friend, Nancy, came to stay one night and we all went to dinner at Duffy's, a chain we knew from 2009.  We had last seen Joel in Wildwood earlier in the month.

The Fort Pierce Farmer's Market on New Years Eve day.

New Year's Eve party, 3D = Dancing, Desserts and Drinking.  All three were fun.

Unfortunately the word came during the party that Brent had succumbed to pneumonia due to his cancer treatment and died in the afternoon.  That did put a damper on our mood.

We ended the evening, even making it to past midnight, with Jon and Chris at their motorhome.

Bird photos and videos from our campground

In addition to Duffy's we also ate at Italian Grill in Vero Beach and went back to Thai House in Jensen Beach, which we had also tried in 2009.
