September 27, 2012 - Florence and Reedsport, Oregon Day Trip

It is around an hour and 15 minutes to Florence from Eugene.  When we got there we had a coffee at Siuslaw Coffee Roasters and enjoyed the beautiful day.

We have been to Florence many times and it is rare to have a sunny, warm, and calm day.  It was 77 degrees.

The marina area.

A Great Egret.  This is about as far north as they are seen on the West Coast.

A nice hibiscus.

Then we headed down to the Umpqua Lighthouse in Reedsport to see if MJ was in.  She wasn't, unfortunately.

We headed back on OR38 and stopped at the elk viewing area.  The first stop the elk were way back in the trees and barely visible with telephoto or binoculars.

But at the furthest east viewing area (about 4 miles east of Reedsport) a bull elk and his harem were close to the road and out in the open.

There he is.

It was fun to see the elk.

We were glad we took the time to head to the coast.
