April 2, 2008 - Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville, Part 2

We could see a long ways:

Much better view of Graveyard Fields:

There is a river down there?

A small glimpse of the river:

Looking Glass Rock:

It was lunch time and the nearest decent sized town was Brevard, miles down US276.  US276 into Brevard is a wild ride since the highway drops in elevation and has many switchbacks.  On the GPS screen we could often see three pieces of the highway displayed.   We were disappointed to see the Cradle of Forestry Center was closed for the season, it was not opening until May.

In Brevard we tried the regional chain Sagebrush Steakhouse and put it on our list as a 3-star.  It was a really good choice for lunch because they had a very full menu at that time with reasonable prices.

Heading back to the Blue Ridge Parkway we stopped at the Pisgah National Forest Visitors Center.

It was a nice visitors center and it looks like this national forest is a busy place in summer.
