January 6, 2008 - Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, Part 1

Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is mostly known for the 2/3rds of a mile trail and boardwalk off US41.   We had driven by multiple times and our friends Dave and Barb recommended we stop.

On the walk to the end of the trail we spied this alligator sunning on a log:

There are many informational signs along the trail, like this one:

A big nest, maybe a bald eagle nest, visible along the trail.  The photo also shows the air plants here.

We made it to the end of the trail and the viewing area.  It was a busy place, here is one of three alligators we saw and a great blue heron:

A great egret up in the trees above the alligators:
