January 1 to 7, 2007 - Hesperia to Ramona, CA

January 1 Bill rode with Gregg and Rosalie to Encino, CA to pick up Aunt Claire (Gregg's sister and Diane's aunt), who was visiting a friend.  It was a very fast trip and we were back in three hours even though we drove right through Pasadena during the Rose Parade.  We had a good visit with Claire and were happy she came while we were still in Hesperia.

January 2 we hated to leave but we did so anyway.  We drove to Ramona Canyon RV Resort, just east of Ramona, CA.  We were going to take I-15 most of the way but it was backed up where I-215 branches off so we took I-215 instead.  The total drive was 135 miles and was 144 miles when we made the same journey to the same campground in January 2005.   This time the weather was warm and sunny.  When we went to check-in they asked if we wanted 50AMP electric, we didn't even know they had 50AMP here.  Here is our 50AMP campsite:

We didn't do much more that day, we still both had colds and we needed to rest from all the visiting.

January 3rd trip to the San Diego Wild Animal Park Part 1    Part 2    Part 3    Part 4

January 4th we drove through Julian and went to the Viejas Outlet Mall to shop for clothes.  We had another nice lunch at Mediterraneo in Alpine afterward.  January 5th we drove into Escondido and did more shopping along with lunch at On the Border.

January 6th we again went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park Part 1    Part 2    Part 3

We had strong winds while in this area, luckily the motorhome was fairly well protected.

January 7th we drove down to the beach in Oceanside.  It was in the 80s.  We also tried Hunter Steakhouse in Oceanside and it was as good as the one in San Diego.

This is the Pacific Ocean at Oceanside, CA looking north:

We had come here in May 1999 with Misty, Sabrina and Taylor and set up on the beach by the pier in the distance.  Taylor was only a few months old at the time.

It is a long ways this direction to land, all the way to Asia:
